UAV GAS PIPELINE INSPECTION
About this good practice
Every gas pipeline has a leakage problem. In addition, it is mandatory to inspect every foot of pipeline once a year and sometimes even more often. Now it is done on foot by groups of 4-5 workers only when the weather is favorable and it is a rather slow procedure.
To find a solution for mentioned problem "top of the notch" technology should be used. Easy and accurate laser measurement technology RMLD (Remote Methane Leak Detector) and latest industrial drone technology. When combined together you get fast, reliable and accurate gas sensing technology. When you adapt this solution with newly developed software with new GIS GPS solution you get fully automated aerial gas leak detection system.

Resources needed
From the beginning and the first year of R&D they invested EUR 100 000 and 3 people worked on it. R&D took 2 years (6/ 2018 -7/2019). Since July 2017 service is offered and contracted continuously.
Evidence of success
AIR-RMLD d.o.o. (Ltd.) now monitors 100km of pipeline and six clients, beginning of 2020 they have signed an exclusive contract for the Croatian main gas distributor for inspecting their pipelines.
Potential for learning or transfer
This practice is potentially interesting for other hard-to-access regions to apply. Over two years they have managed to present their work to leading companies in our region and to transfer their idea and product to convince people in executive positions.
