This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The main goal of the cluster is to stimulate the development of photonic industry and companies using fiber optic technology, increase their competitiveness by providing knowledge, exchange of good practices, support innovation and stimulate cooperation between companies and institutions. The cluster’ goal is to make photonic solutions available for every branch of industry around world.
The InPhoTech company engage not-for profit entity Polish Centre for Photonics and Fibre Optics, to gain trust of the competitors and convince them to cooperate. Photonics is one of Key Enabling Technologies (KETs), means advanced technology with great novelty and shortage of industrial specialist. Photonic solutions are difficult to understand by traditional industries, risky to be implemented, maintained and difficult to understand, but give great benefits. It is hugely competitive industry.
From the cluster experience, the best actions to attract new interesting members of the cluster are: organisation of the fairs, conferences and education activities for companies, participation in the cooperation projects with public support, support of the PhD placement in the companies and participation in the National Smart Specialisations Working Groups.
Thanks to that the cluster involved stakeholders of the whole value chain of photonic solutions, that support the cluster's activities within its competence.

Resources needed
The start of the cluster's activity required obtaining funds in the amount of PLN 302,000 and 2 persons on place to run the cluster on daily basis.
Evidence of success
24 members of the cluster actively cooperating, including 22 companies.
Potential for learning or transfer
The cluster as such is a good practice because it is bottom-up initiative created by a small photonics company from a scratch. Now the cluster brings together stakeholders of the whole value chain of photonic solutions, that support the cluster's activities within its competence. The photonics, as KETs, are difficult subject to attract new members. The cluster succeed in it, especially by attracting an independent scientific entity to coordinate the activities.
