On 15 and 16 January 2025, the Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform and the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship are organising a policy learning event in Olsztyn, Poland, to assess the social and economic impact on Europe's bordering regions with Russia.

Russia’s war aggression on Ukraine and the subsequent closure of Europe’s eastern borders are profoundly reshaping the economic and social context of the EU regions neighbouring Russia. The development strategies and programmes originally designed for these regions are ill-equipped to address the unprecedented economic, social and security challenges triggered by Russia’s war aggression on Ukraine.

The Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship in North-East Poland therefore reached out to the Interreg Europe programme for an interregional policy learning process bringing together the local and regional border territories directly affected by the war.

Altogether, more than 60 local, regional, national and European representatives from all affected countries (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Norway) will attend the event for an in-depth exchange process moderated and facilitated by Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform.

Representatives from the European Commission, different European programmes for regional cooperation, and the World Bank will also participate in the interregional exchange process to discuss the need for adapted and enhanced policy interventions.

This event is invite-only.
