County government strengthens circular economy in new theme

An expert meeting was organized by the Hajdú-Bihar County Government on the 7th of June 2023 in Debrecen. It included municipalities of the county, experts in spatial and urban development, university researchers and representatives of the waste management sector.

It was an opportunity to discuss the issues related to the project's theme, both in the county and in a broader context, focusing on the collection, treatment and recycling of electrical and electronic waste in the waste management sector. The current regulatory framework, the e-waste market and the volume of capacity in the county were explored.

Following the technical discussion, the participants agreed that the most important step in the project is to raise awareness about WEEE among the general public and institutions.

As the project progresses, there will be a stronger focus on raising awareness on the specific collection, treatment and recycling. A survey of the relevant waste markets will be carried out in consultation with the international partnership.

Following the expert's contributions, the staff of the Hajdú-Bihar County Government presented the way forward. 

The indicative date for the next expert meeting was set for October 2023, closing this expert meeting.
