Study visit to Ämmässuo Eco-Industrial Centre in Helsinki
The third study visit is fast approaching and will be hosted in Helsinki by our Finnish partner, HSY. The visit is scheduled to take place from May 26th to 28th. We will dive deeper in the organisation of the Circular Hub: Ämmässuo Eco-Industrial Centre and the EKOMO partnership. And we hope our partners will be welcomed with long, sunny days.
Study Visit Theme and Program
The third semester of CHEERS4EU begins in April, introducing a new theme: Circular Value Chains and Business Models. It is particularly fitting that HSY will host its study visit during the early months of the semester, as the theme will be integrated into the program and reflected in every aspect of the visit.
Throughout the visit, we will explore various stages of the circular value chain, both within our own operations and through our stakeholders. The program is designed to follow the value chain step by step, starting from the initial phases and progressing upward—let’s see how far we can go!
A key focus of this visit is ensuring that the most relevant stakeholders are available to present their facilities and operations to our partners. Naturally, we are also committed to maintaining a strong connection to the Circular Value Chains and Business Models theme. We are currently finalizing the program and securing the participation of stakeholders. So far, confirmed site visits include Stena Recycling and Asfalttikallio.
Featured Visits
Stena Recycling is one of the largest metal recyclers in Finland and operates in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Italy, and the United States. At the Ämmässuo Eco-Industrial Center, Stena Recycling specializes in the reception and processing of metals, electronic waste, and hazardous waste. As part of their operations, they also dismantle electric vehicles.
Asfalttikallio is Finland’s market leader in asphalt recycling, striving to maximize the use of recycled materials in its production. At its largest production facilities, recycled asphalt accounts for 50–70% of the total mix, depending on the type.
Final Preparations
Planning for the visit began last year and has gradually gained momentum. However, there is still a lot to finalize. Thanks to the inspiring study visits to Limburg and Asturias, we are well-prepared to host our own.
The next steps involve organizing practical details such as locations, logistics, and catering. In order to offer our partners also an insight into Finnish culture, a sauna experience has been arranged for those interested at the conclusion of the visit.
We look forward to welcoming our partners to Helsinki for an engaging and insightful study visit focused on circular economy!
