Nature-based Carbon Offsets, NACAO project, meets in February in Jyväskylä, Central Finland. The thematic days include sharing good practices, site visits in forest restoration spots in Saarijärvi, and a steering group meeting. Thematic seminars is a platform for sharing knowledge, mutual learning and networking. In the meeting six regions around Europe meet each others and stakeholders are invited to join us.

Land-use planning, biodiversity offsetting and climate aspects: Case study presentation from collaborative project of University of Jyväskylä School of Resource Wisdom and Jyväskylä city.

Lunch at restaurant Villa Rana, at a histrorical art nouveau building in University of Jyväskylä campus area.

12:30 Afternoon site visit: Forest restoration sites Haani and Nevalansuo at Saarijärvi municipality. Peatland based forest restoration sites in presentation and especially restoration actions conducted.

  • Forestry land is classified as peatland if the land is covered by a layer of peat or if more than 75% of the ground vegetation is bog vegetation. There is no minimum thickness requirement for the peat layer. Other habitats are classified as heathland. A bog is thin peatland if the thickness of the peat layer is less than 30 cm. In a geological bog, the thickness of the peat must be at least 30 cm.

Visit at Tarvaala Bioeconomy campus and short presentaation in there.
