Cultural routes in Europe
‘European Cultural Routes’ are transnational routes that help tourists discover how Europeans have lived since ancient times. The concept was launched by the Council of Europe in 1987.
This policy brief presents the Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes Programme, the EU’s policies on Cultural Routes, as well as lessons from interregional learning and exchange on the topic. It discusses the obstacles to further development, maintenance, and promotion of Cultural Routes. The brief also makes a number of recommendations and shares good practices from Interreg Europe projects.
