Evidence of success
The weight of exports in the regional economy exceeds the national exportation level. Sales in international markets of companies in the Region of Murcia accounted for 31 percent of the regional gross domestic product last year, (>23% national level). Within the Foreign Promotion Plan, 1,2 million euros have been allocated to develop more than 130 activities: trade missions, attendance at international fairs, conferences, training courses or seminars involving more than 2.500 companies.
Potential for learning or transfer
The objective is to maintain this trend working through the External Promotion Plan in new training and awareness actions for companies and entrepreneurs.
One of the main challenges is to monitorize the results of the activities. After the activities offered are done, companies usually goes on its own and it is very difficult to analyze the real effectiveness of the activities. For example, after an international fair, we are able to count all the bilateral meetings of our companies but it is difficult to asses how the meeting has gone and if there has been a real transaction.
It would be great for other countries to analyze the implementation of all the activities under this programm. The programm is well structured among the year. It counts with the best professionals in foreing markets based on the decision to promote and boost production and consumption, both internally and externally, to balance the relationship between imports and exports.
