GED - Gender Equality and Diversity Award
About this good practice
The diffusion of a culture of gender differences is one of the main axes of the Emilia-Romagna Region policies. Despite the progress made, full gender equality in everyday life is not yet a reality. Therefore, the RER is following a path made of commitment, resources, and concrete actions, also looking at the experiences of other regions.
Since 2014, the Region has a framework law for equality and against gender discrimination. To the art. 30, the law introduces recognition for companies, bodies and associations that stand out in the creation of equal opportunities. Thus, since 2017, the GED award aims to promote innovations against inequalities, discrimination and gender stereotypes towards businesses and institutions.
Specific attention was given to training, professional updating and social integration against discrimination and violence caused by sexual orientation or gender identity, carried out in implementation of the specific regional law of 2019, n.15.
GED prize is a section of the “Responsible Innovators Award” established in 2014 by the regional law Promotion of investments in Emilia-Romagna (n. 14 of 18 July 2014, art. 17)
The award has taken place every year since 2015; GED prize was launched in 2017; a new wider edition started in 2022.
In the latest editions, beneficiaries are companies, associations, universities and schools, local entities, and professionals.
Resources needed
The tender does not provide a cash prize, but a valorisation of the selected projects through various communication initiatives (public award event, video spots, posts on the regional social media channels, publications in online newspapers) for which the E-R Region invests 50,000 Euro annually.
Evidence of success
Over 700 public/private entities participated in the Responsible Innovators Award. 26 are the GED projects awarded, 16 are those mentioned as valuable. Projects allowed to promote gender equality and diversity culture in companies and start positive actions within a network, creating a domino effect.
Potential for learning or transfer
The initiative does not involve the allocation of large economic resources, but is focused on the creation and promotion of a network of public and private entities and virtuous good practices.
The aim of the award is precisely to encourage the replicability of the initiatives, starting from the regional territory but with the possibility of going beyond.
The GED projects, in fact, have contributed to a virtuous process of sensitization, awareness and exchange through the launch and dissemination of easily replicable positive actions.
