Measure for promotion of activities of centres for innovation and technology transfer
About this good practice
Knowledge and technology transfer activities performed by research and higher education institutions were lacking efficiency and effectiveness.
Initiated project grants in two calls. The first of which was for strengthening units for targeted staff amplifying for functions of knowledge and technology transfer, the promotion of cooperation between science and business, the organisation of open access to R&D infrastructure services, for consultancy and services comprise the coordination of knowledge and technology transfer processes, the organisation of the process of inventions disclosure and of protection of intellectual property, opportunity for commercialisation of R&D results, and the search for markets and funding sources. The next call was dedicated to Entrepreneurship activities, including traineeships, training in entrepreneurship skills for knowledge and technology transfer, R&D product development for public presentation, creation of demonstration spaces, including the development of models, art objects and demonstration of prototypes, entrepreneurial events.
Resources needed
Funded under the Operational programme for the European Union funds’ investments in 2014-2020. Priority 1 “Promotion of Research, Experimental Development and Innovation”. ~ 13 M EUR: 5.7 MEUR (firs call) + 7,7 (second call). Dedicated for employee (science managers, researches).
Evidence of success
The measure visibly stimulated 12 higher education institutions and research institutes to carry out R&D activities with commercial potential and intensified the activities of knowledge and technology transfer units.
Competences of staff have been strengthened, active knowledge transfer actions have been initiated, legal regulation of intellectual property and knowledge and technology transfer has been introduced and /or strengthened, services for business and society have been provided.
Potential for learning or transfer
At the political level, the need for continued knowledge transfer promotion was recognized. Planned actions will aim at Knowledge and technology transfer centres to become a one-stop services locations of commercialization of R&D results and facilitation of the development of new innovative ideas. As the measure had the effect of boosting the results of R&D in practice.
Investments and long-term actions have led not only to strengthen but also to establish mutual co-operation and co-operation with the relevant centres in the EU.
