In the context of an upcoming interregional peer review for the Provinces of Noord and Zuid Holland, which will take place on the 6-7 November 2024 in Haarlem, the Netherlands, we are looking for experts on water availability in the context of climate change.

Experts on water availability in the context of climate change wanted!

Our current peer review is for the Provinces of Noord and Zuid Holland. Both provinces are facing an urgent challenge regarding the availability of fresh water and drinking water. Extreme weather conditions due to climate change cause an excess of water at certain times, and (significant) shortages of fresh water in other times. These fluctuating conditions require the development of a robust water system for the collection, storage, drainage, and/or buffering of water, since this is of great importance to the (agricultural) industry and natural areas in both Provinces. Current infrastructures may not be sufficient to collect and store large amounts of rainwater for use during dry periods.

Additionally, the drinking water companies in these regions have indicated that they are reaching the limits of their supply capacity. This issue is caused by both population growth and the effects of climate change. To meet future demand, new sources of drinking water must be found, and water conservation and the smart distribution and (re)use of water must be strongly promoted. Think of possible solutions, such as grey and black water systems, and desalination plants.

Therefore, the Provinces are looking for experts that can answer to this questions
    • Has your region addressed the collection, storage, and buffering of water during times of abundance?
    • Do you know innovative methods and technologies that have proven effective for water conservation and efficient water use?
    • Can you share input on successful strategies for identifying and developing new sources of fresh water (drinking water)?
    • Can you advise the province/other stakeholders how they can effectively fulfil their role in supporting and coordinating water management initiatives?
Join us to bring you experience !

If you have expertise in one or more of the above mentioned fields, we invite you to complete our short questionnaire before 30 September. You will be part of a team of peers with complementary profiles to address the region's needs effectively.

The peer review is planned for next 5-6 November, in Haarlem (Netherlands).

    Why Participate as a Peer?

You’ll meet the regional policy makers and local stakeholders to further analyse their challenges and elaborate concrete recommendations for policy action jointly with them in a peer-learning format fully moderated by the Policy Learning Platform.
