A large inscription ‘18 December, International Migrants Day’ is visible at the top, with a graphic of a globe below, under which a number of silhouettes of migrants - adults and children carrying luggage - are visible.

International Migrants Day is coming up!

It is an occasion that has been celebrated annually on 18 December for more than 20 years. The event was established back in 2000 by the UN General Assembly due to the ever-increasing number of migrants worldwide.

The day is an opportunity to bring to everyone's attention the problems migrants have to face and the reasons why they undertake this difficult journey.

The day of 18 December was not chosen at random - it is the anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families by UNGA in 1990.

On this day, let us remember those people who overcome unimaginable obstacles to achieve a better, safer life!
