On 16 and 17 May 2023, the Policy Learning Platform is organising a peer review for the benefit of the Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra Region (CIM-RC), on the topic of integrated territorial development to fight depopulation.
In terms of population density, Coimbra Region is the second largest region in the Central Region and has had a very dynamic demographic history in recent decades.
However, recently the Region of Coimbra is facing major demographic challenges, namely related to the depopulation of certain regions; brain drain/rainfall, the gap between rural and urban areas, population ageing and population decline.
Therefore, the CIM-RC aims to boost its active policies for the development of low-density territories, promoting an integrated territorial approach in response to demographic loss.
With this peer review, the CIM-RC aims to learn about projects that have successfully reversed demographic issues, in order to aid better decision-making and efficient responses to the demographic challenges
The peer review will be moderated by Luc Schmerber and Rene Tonnisson, Thematic Experts on SME Competitiveness.
The peer review is an invitation-only event. However, key learnings of the peer review will be published afterwards in a follow-up article on the Interreg Europe website.
