In the context of an upcoming interregional peer review for the State of Thüringen, which will take place on the 26-27 November 2024 in Germany, we are looking for experts on the reintroduction of the lynx and biodiversity.

Experts on lynx reintroduction and biodiversity wanted!

The lynx is an important part of the ecosystem and the largest feline predator in Germany. However, the very rare lynx requires large foraging areas and suffers from the fragmentation of its natural habitats. For this reason, population support is still needed to promote gene exchange and connect lynx habitats.

At the beginning of 2024, Thuringia has thus launched the new species conservation project "Lynx Thuringia - Networking Europe's Lynx" and plans to release 20 lynxes into the wild within the next four years. The main aim of the peer review is to share best practices with regard to the lynx reintroduction. As a result, recommendations and guidelines for the successful preparation and implementation of corresponding projects should be developed.

Therefore, the State of Thüringen is looking for experts that can answer to this questions
    • Do you have experience in starting and preparing the reintroduction of the lynx in your region?
    • Can you share input on setting-up the stakeholder process and governance framework for lynx reintroduction projects?
    • Can you advise Thuringia on how to motivate stakeholders during the implementation phase and keep them involved in the long-term?
    • What tools have you used to evaluate and monitor progress?
    • Which specific measures have you used to communicate the lynx reintroduction project to the public and to manage conflicts?

Join us to bring you experience !

If you have expertise in one or more of the above mentioned fields, we invite you to complete our short questionnaire before 30 September. You will be part of a team of peers with complementary profiles to address the region's needs effectively.

The peer review is planned for next 25-26 November, in Germany.

    Why Participate as a Peer?

You’ll meet the regional policy makers and local stakeholders to further analyse their challenges and elaborate concrete recommendations for policy action jointly with them in a peer-learning format fully moderated by the Policy Learning Platform.
