Gearing up for a Site Visit in Lens, France: Ensuring Compliance with Sustainability Certifications and Green Investment Criteria

From July 2 to July 4, RAW4RES partners and their stakeholders will gather in Lens, France for a study visit and our 3rd SGM meeting. This event, organized by our French Partner TEAM2, falls under Activity A3.1, which involves a two-day visit to business sites that have:

  • Enhanced sustainability, traceability, and transparency through the adoption of sustainability certifications.
  • Achieved compliance with green investment criteria, focusing on EU Taxonomy requirements.

One of the key visits will be to Recytech, a company specializing in the manufacturing of zinc oxides from metallurgical dust. The Recytech process involves recycling electric arc furnace dusts and zinc residues to extract zinc. The Waelz process, employed by Recytech, separates zinc from other elements in the residues through pyrometallurgy at over 1200°C, utilizing a 50-meter-long rotary kiln operating in continuous fire. Recytech is a critical component of the circular economy for zinc, functioning as an urban mine that conserves natural metal resources. Their operations align with current policies and regulations concerning the circular economy, energy transition, and green growth.

Benefits for Businesses

While the adoption of sustainability standards entails immediate costs due to stricter regulations and more complex processes, these initial expenses are often balanced by long-term benefits. Companies adopting these standards can experience:

  • Increased profitability through improved reputation and market competitiveness.
  • Operational efficiency and cost savings from reduced energy consumption and improved waste management.
  • Reduced regulatory risks and fines.
  • Enhanced brand value and lower public opposition.

Overall, the long-term financial impact of adopting sustainability standards can be significantly positive.

Steering Group Meeting

On the final day, July 4, we will convene our 3rd Steering Group Meeting. This meeting will provide an opportunity to assess our progress, review the outcomes of our site visits, and plan future steps to advance our project goals. It will be a crucial session for aligning our strategies and ensuring that we continue to move forward effectively.

Stay tuned for more updates on our activities and progress!
